Amended guidance to the delivery of the PE curriculum

03 November 2020

Dear parents/carers,

Yesterday I had sent an email to parents about the new guidance that we had received in relation to Physical Education in schools. I sought immediate clarification on the new guidance and raised my concerns with the Department of Education.

This evening the Department of Education has contacted principals to explain that they have now amended this guidance. Schools, pre-schools and other education providers can now deliver PE both outdoors and indoors and there is no legal cap on the number of participants. This means that our pupils can continue to receive Physical Education lessons both outdoors and indoors. The new amendment also allows all pupils in each class to participate in PE lessons at the one time.

I am very pleased that the Department of Education has amended their guidance. Physical Education is a core aspect of the curriculum. Not only does PE improve fitness levels but it boosts self-esteem and promotes health and well-being.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Taylor
