World Book Day 2020

25 February 2020

World Book Day will be celebrated in school on Thursday 5th March 2020.

In response to a number of requests from parents we will not be dressing up on World Book Day this year. Some parents felt that it was quite expensive to obtain a costume for World Book Day each year. Therefore, pupils will wear school uniform as normal on World Book Day and complete fun activities in school. We may reintroduce dressing up on World Book Day another year.

Instead of paying for a costume for World Book Day some parents had suggested that they would be willing to donate preowned children’s books that they have at home to be placed in our school library for others to read or some parents had suggested giving a voluntary donation towards new reading material and books for school instead. Please leave any donations into the school office.

On World Book Day on Thursday 5th March our children will be participating in a range of fun activities related to reading. Pupils will identify their favourite book and then draw or write about it, depending on their age and stage of development.

We have also organised for storytelling session workshops to take place for Nursery, Primary 1, Primary 2 and Primary 3. We will have a local children’s author in school and pupils in Primary 4 – Primary 7 will have an opportunity to meet the children’s author and find out about how to write and publish a book.
