Medical Needs and Allergies

11 September 2019

Children with Medical Needs

At the beginning of each school year we are required to provide the School Nursing Service with a list of pupils’ names for whom a Care/Health Plan is being maintained.

Please note that it is the responsibility of parents to provide school with a copy of their child’s health plan and to ensure that any medication the child may require (eg EpiPens, inhalers etc) is sent to school, updated regularly and labelled clearly.

Should your child’s medical needs dictate that he/she may require the school to administer medication during the school day a consent form must be signed by the parent.

Please complete the reply slip and return to school no later than Friday 13th September. Consent forms, if required, are available from school and, when completed, should be brought to school by the parent.

ALLERGIES

Over a prolonged period of time we have co-operated with parents, health professionals and school meals supervisors to ensure the we continue to be an ‘Allergy Aware School’.

May we, therefore, once again, request your full co-operation in ensuring that children with allergies are protected and kept safe while in school. To this end allow me to remind you that some of our children have extremely severe nut allergies which requires constant vigilance on the part of all staff.

Please help to keep these children safe by making sure that all foodstuffs with nut contents or extracts are NOT brought into school as part of your child’s break time snack or lunchbox. In particular, please do not send your child to school with

- any types of nuts

- Nutella spread

- food containing coconut extract

- pesto

- foods that may contain traces of nuts

Thank you for your co-operation.
