Education Minister announces changes to schools` reopening arrangements

I hope that you and your children have been able to enjoy time together over the Christmas period.

In light of the announcement by the Education Minister this morning, that the return to school for pupils is to be delayed, I am writing to provide parents and carers with some further information. This morning the Education Minister Peter Weir has announced revised plans for schools reopening after the Christmas break. As yet the full revised plans have not yet been shared with school principals. I anticipate that more information will be released later on today. Again principals are only reading this information from the various news and media channels.

However, I am aware that pupils in P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6 and P7 pupils not sitting the transfer will no longer return on Tuesday 5th January 2021, as originally planned. Instead, pupils will partake in remote learning from Tuesday 5th January to Friday 8th January, returning to school on Monday 11th January. I have asked for clarity on P7 transfer pupils and nursery pupils. I will be in touch with parents and carers once I receive more information.

School will be closed on Monday 4th January 2020 as this is a planned staff development day. School will be open for supervised learning for vulnerable children and those parents which fall under the keyworker category from Tuesday 5th January to Friday 8th January. If you are a key worker or your child is classed as a vulnerable child and you require your child(ren) to attend school next week please fill in this online form. I will then liaise with you directly regarding support arrangements.

Once again, I can only apologise for this being thrown at you so last minute, however your support and cooperation is very much appreciated.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs K Taylor
